I don’t know about any of you, but I was raised as a Christian and as a Christian I was taught to take the bible quite literally. It wasn’t until I began to awaken to my own spiritual journey that I learned the bible is more metaphorical than literal. It was then that I was able to decode bible scriptures and receive its true meaning. The scriptures I’ve learned to decode will be shared with you in hopes that you too can receive the true hidden meanings that will cause a shift in your consciousness. In this post, I will be focusing on Matthew 6:5-8.
5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. NIV: Matthew 6:5-8
Matthew 6:5
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

A prayer in simple terms is to make a request for something. In this verse it is highlighting how many people just like to gloat; they like to put on a show for other people. They get in front of people and put on a façade that they have high faith in God and God is going to answer their prayers and they have this great relationship with God. They like to go around and boastfully speak how God is doing all these “amazing” things in their lives. But behind closed doors it’s all a lie. Deep inside they don’t even believe in their own words or prayers. They just like to look more “spiritual” or “religious” than the next person. A reward is to receive something in accordance to one’s effort or service. The reward they receive is equal to the TRUE amount of faith and connection they have with God/Source, which in this case the reward wouldn’t be much of anything.
Matthew 6:6
“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

This is one of my favorite scriptures and one of the most misinterpreted ones. This scripture, just as many others, is not literal. I wrote a previous article as well detailing the true meaning of putting God first.

The “room” this scripture is speaking of is simply your mind, to close the door means to close out any contradictory thoughts that goes against what you are seeking. This is also a time to mentally and emotionally detach yourself from your outer circumstances.
Your Father represents your subconscious mind, which is the place within us where Infinite Intelligence and Creation lies, and of course is unseen to the natural eye. Once you have entered your subconscious mind and prayed a sincere prayer of thankfulness which is equivalent to imagining and feeling your desired outcome, your Father, “subconscious mind”, who has seen what you’ve done in secret, in the chambers of your own mind and heart, will reward you.
The Reward
Your reward will be the physical manifestation of what you’ve prayed to God for. Also note, “who has seen what you’ve done in secret” refers to your inner vision and awareness. Your inner vision and awareness are a secret because it is only known to you and The Creator. God is also pure awareness and when you truly tune in you will notice how there is a part of you witnessing your thoughts. With this realization, your awareness will increase to the fact that you are not your thoughts but the watcher of your thoughts. This watcher is your Inner God. Your Inner God/Awareness can always see what’s truly going on inside of you.
Sidenote: Although I use the word God, please know I am not speaking of a religious entity. I may also use the words Source/Creator/Universe/Infinite Intelligence/Soul. All of these words have one meaning to me: the energy that created all things and that dwells within us.
This scripture is not about going into a literal room and closing a literal door. Once you understand this, you see how you are truly praying all the time by way of your thoughts and feelings. This can be done anytime, anyplace….Oh yea, and God is always watching, so be honest 😊.
Matthew 6:7-8
“And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Decoded:
The last passage ties into the first one; people wanting to be seen and heard just to put on a show. Notice however where it states, “they think they will be heard because of their many words.” Simply said, words are empty and hold no value without any true intent and feeling behind them. God is a feeler. Hence, it also states “your Father knows what you need before you ask him; because Source is interpreting what’s in your heart, which is your biggest feeling center. Also, it shows why you’ll hear many Christians say “God knows my heart” because despite what you say with your words and the actions you perform, what you hold in your heart is your truth and reflects the real you.
So, when you pray, keep quiet, no one needs to know the conversation, or transfer of energy, you had/are having with God. Your rewards aka physical manifestations will show everyone just what truly has been going on “behind closed doors”. Let you rewards speak for you.
